Evaluation of the feasibility of nylon 66 for costal osteosynthesis and closure of thoracotomy
Main Article Content
Abstract
Different metallic alloys with different designs and attachment techniques were successfully used for post traumatic stabilization of the thoracic wall. Several absorbable and non-absorbable materials were also used as support (pericostal points) for the closure.
We assessed the feasability of using nylon 66 (polyamide) as a splint and as rib fracture fixative. By extension, for the closure of the thoracotomy. For this purpose, we carried out tests on 5 domestic sheep. As a result, we demonstrated the demonstrating the feasibility of both uses while minimizing artifacts seen with metals on CT scan and MRI.
