Main Article Content
Abstract
In recent years medical undergraduated students have experienced a deficit in the learning of clinical practices during the
course of surgery.
Competency based education has emerged as a teaching approach focuses on outcomes of learning. It emphasizes the acquisition of the skills needed to function properly in the professional environment.
The teaching strategies proposed in this setting are resolution of problems, elaboration of algorithms and attendance to ambulatory facilities to be in contact with the care of patients. This kind of approach requires close and permanent docent supervi- sion.
Competency based education, extended to the rest of the curriculum of the career, will contribute to improve the quality of performance of recent medical graduated during their early practice.
