Percutaneous management of a bile duct stricture secondary to a laparoscopic clip

Abstract

Bile duct injuries are serious complications of laparoscopic cholecystectomies with a prevalence between 0.4% and 1.5%. We report the case of a 51-year-old male patient with a bile duct stricture secondary to a laparoscopic clip following a laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis. 
The patient was treated with a percutaneous approach, which relieved symptoms and dilated the obstruction, resolving the condition during the 24-month follow-up. The percutaneous approach provided initial relief from the acute event, followed by definitive treatment. This approach avoided the complications of major surgery. We did not find similar cases after conducting a comprehensive literature search, which underscores the value of the present case.
